Sustainability In Action @ Rotorua District Council

Sustainability in Action functions have always been about profiling the sustainability actions of Rotorua Sustainable Tourism Charter members, but for the May 2010 function we broke away from this model.
In response to Charter members wanting to know more about the sustainability actions being taken by Rotorua District Council we invited RDC’s sustainability champion Kerry Starling to discuss some of the corporate sustainability actions being taken by RDC.
“A key issue for us was to get our house in order before we start ‘preaching’ sustainability to the community” says Kerry. Actions adopted by RDC include incorporating sustainability into the induction process, offering pool bikes for staff, gradually converting the car pool to low emission diesel vehicles, and reducing the vehicle fleet by twelve vehicles by initiating an internal car pooling system.
