Novotel goes vege

Jul 1, 2010

Novotel goes vegeThe Accor chain of hotels has a strong commitment to social and environmental sustainability through its global Earth Guest policy. This policy is founded on eight priorities; four of these priorities relate to environmental sustainability including energy, water, waste and biodiversity. The other four relate to social sustainability and include local development, child protection, fight against epidemics and food.

On April 22, also recognised globally as Earth Day, Novotel Rotorua took the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to the Accor sustainability ethic. Around twenty staff and management from the hotel helped construct and plant raised vegetable gardens at Westbrook School.

“We’ve developed a relationship with Westbrook School and have been supporting them for over a year now” says Norman Turner, the hotel’s maintenance manager and the person responsible for implementing many of the actions the hotel commits to through the Accor Earth Guest policy. According to Novotel Rotorua General Manager Fraser McKenzie, this was the hotel’s way of giving something back to the community in which the hotel operates.
